Advisory: Nielsen Delays Ratings Due To ‘Processing Delay’

By Alex Weprin

Nielsen is telling its network customers that due to a “processing delay,” final ratings from last week and last night will be delayed. In other words, expect the broadcast evening news, morning show and Sunday show ratings to post later than usual, as well as the cable news Scoreboard.

The delay is particularly frustrating for Nielsen’s broadcast clients, as last night marked day one of the new TV season.

In more positive news for Nielsen: the company was given government approval by the FTC to complete its takeover of Arbitron, which had been its largest competitor. Under the terms of the deal with the FTC, Nielsen must continue to support Project Blueprint, which saw Arbitron and comScore work with ESPN to measure cross-platform viewership and engagement.
