Adrienne Mong Named London Bureau Manager for NBC News

NBC News has named Adrienne Mong London bureau Manager. In her new role Mong will oversee day-to-day operations and news coverage at NBC’s London bureau, and will also manage NBC’s partnership with U.K. TV network ITN.

Mong had been a producer and correspondent for NBC News in Beijing. Before joining NBC in 2004, Mong hadworked as a producer for the BBC World Service.

“Adrienne has long been a critical international contributor from our Beijing bureau, especially this past year with breaking news in Japan and Libya. She has proved time and again that she has the skills, dedication and editorial judgment required to help run our primary international operations in London and we welcome her to this new role,” said NBC News president Steve Capus in a statement.

NBC NEWS APPOINTS ADRIENNE MONG AS LONDON BUREAU MANAGER

NEW YORK, NY– JAN. 12, 2012– NBC News President Steve Capus announced today that Adrienne Mong has been appointed as London Bureau Manager, effective early March 2012. She will report to NBC News’ International News Director Chris Hampson and International News Deputy Director Geoff Tofield. Prior to this appointment, Mong served as a senior producer and on-air correspondent in NBC News’ Beijing bureau.

In her new role, Mong will supervise and oversee day-to-day operations and news coverage for the London bureau, including management of the International News Desk. She will also help manage NBC News’ partnership with ITN.

“Adrienne has long been a critical international contributor from our Beijing bureau, especially this past year with breaking news in Japan and Libya. She has proved time and again that she has the skills, dedication and editorial judgment required to help run our primary international operations in London and we welcome her to this new role,” said Capus.

As a producer and correspondent based in Beijing since 2004, Mong supported NBC News’ efforts to prepare and expand the Beijing bureau for the 2008 Olympic Games. She also coordinated the bureau’s coverage of the 2011 earthquake and tsunami in Japan, as well as the 2010 earthquake in Haiti. Mong was also key to the network’s coverage of international stories such as Gaddafi’s death in Libya, the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, and the tsunami in Sri Lanka.

Prior to working at NBC News, Mong was a freelance producer for the BBC World Service in London, where she supported their morning program, “The World Today.” She was also a contributing writer to the Far Eastern Economic Review and Persimmon magazines. Before the BBC, Mong was a field producer for CNN’s “Lou Dobbs Moneyline.”

Mong has received a number of industry recognitions, including two Emmy Awards, and a Gracie Award, Headliner Award and Deadline Club Award. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from the University of Chicago and her Master’s degree in Area Studies (Southeast Asia) from the School of Oriental and African Studies in London, and most recently completed a 2002 Case Media Fellowship on globalization at the University of Maryland. In addition to English, Mong is fluent in French and Mandarin.

NBC’s Beijing bureau will remain an important part of NBC News’ international operations.
