ABC’s David Muir: ‘What We Witnessed Was Unimaginable’

By Mark Joyella

ABC World News Tonight anchor David Muir was stunned by what he found while investigating reports of widespread mistreatment of disabled and orphaned children in Mexico City.

“What we witnessed was unimaginable,” Muir told TVNewser, describing horrendous conditions for children who were, in many cases, locked away in cages. “The cages and restraints seemed frozen in time and sadly, the children have no voice.”

Muir’s report, an investigation produced in cooperation with Disability Rights International, airs tonight on World News Tonight and Nightline. But even before airing, the investigation has forced officials in Mexico City to act, banning the use of cages and restraints and agreeing to work with DRI to make improvements in the care of children.
