ABC ‘World News’ Decade Look-Back Incorrectly IDs Eliot Spitzer

By Chris Ariens

On “World News with Diane Sawyer” last night, correspondent David Muir was wrapping up the decade in politics for one of those show closing pieces you’ll see a lot of this week. Unfortunately, he got the title wrong for one of the subjects. Muir’s track went like this:

There were also the scandals of the decade. New York Attorney General Eliot Spitzer who paid for a high-priced prostitute….

Of course, Spitzer was Governor of New York when he visited that high-priced prostitute at the Mayflower hotel in February, 2008. The man known as Client-9, would resign as governor a month later. Spitzer was New York’s Attorney General for 7 years ending in 2006. As AG he pursued prostitution cases.

“We’re glad you’re watching that closely,” ABC News spokesperson Jeffrey Schneider tells TVNewser. “The correspondent misspoke, caught his own mistake and it was corrected for the next feed.”
