ABC Newsers Get Ready for Office Moves

By Chris Ariens

By early 2011 ABC News’ New York operations, now spread over multiple buildings on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, will be under one roof.

News of the moves came down during a meeting of show executive producers last week, insiders tell TVNewser. The office moves are a continuation of the reorganization of the news division which included the elimination of up to 400 jobs earlier this year.

Within six months news employees will work out of the same building: 47 W. 66th St., also known as Peter Jennings Way.

That means “Good Morning America” staffers and those from the investigative, medical and law & justice units will move from their current home around the corner at 147 Columbus Ave.

When it moved from Washington five years ago, “Nightline” got a new newsroom at 147 Columbus. They too will be on the move.

The buyouts and layoffs have meant a lot of empty desks. The moves will cost ABC News up front, but the division will save money on real estate in the long run.

ABC News executives will also be on the move, from the 5th floor to the 13th floor, making room for a combined newsroom for digital and ABCNews.com staffers who currently call 7 West 66th St. home.

Some of the moves will be complete by October.
