In addition to appearing on “Good Morning America” with an exclusive interview with Bashar Al Assad, Barbara Walters taped a special introduction for ABCNews.com and their new partner Yahoo!

“Today’s Newsmaker interview on ABCNews.com and Yahoo! is an exclusive conversation with Syria’s embattled president,” said Walters in the online version of her interview.

A longer version of the interview aired this morning on “GMA.” Walters told George Stephanopoulos, “There were no restrictions. There were no guidelines. We were free to ask any questions.”

After the interview, Walters told Stephanopoulos the State Department had advised Walters not to leave her hotel room. “Not only did we leave the hotel room. But we walked all over. We had a young woman that was our minder. We went anywhere we wanted to. The markets are filled with food. People are sitting outside, having coffee. One hour away, people are being killed.”

More of the interview airs tonight on “World News” with the full interview on “Nightline.”
