ABC News, Univision Soft-Launch Website For New Cable Channel

By Alex Weprin

ABC News and Univision have quietly launched a website for the upcoming cable news channel the two companies are developing. The new site exists as a micro-site on ABCNews.com, and is part of the Yahoo!/ABC News Digital Network.

Because the new channel doesn’t have a name yet, the site refers to it as the “ABC News/Univision Network.” Doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue.

As promised, the articles on the site have a focus on issues important to Latinos, and are all in English. There is also prominent placement for available jobs at the new network (disclosure: ABC/Univision have posted those jobs on Mediabistro’s job board).

While it is still early, the new site is a first step in getting the network off the ground, and gives it an online presence in advance of the upcoming Presidential election, which will likely drive tremendous traffic to most online news outlets. It also allows staffers to hone the voice of the channel, well in advance of any TV debut.
