ABC News Sponsors an Event That Targets the Network

By Chris Ariens

Strange bedfellows indeed.

ABC News will be covering an event in the House Radio-TV Gallery today that was assembled to essentially criticize the network. Yesterday we told you about the Media Fairness Caucus which is made up of GOP members of Congress who are unhappy with ABC News’ approach to tonight’s health care special.

Events held in the Gallery need a broadcast “sponsor.” So the Media Fairness Caucus went to ABC and asked if they would do it. ABC News president David Westin agreed. So at least one network will cover the event, ABC, and an off-air ABC News reporter will be in attendance asking questions of the representatives.

The health care summit, to be held at the White House tonight and broadcast live on ABC, is moderated by ABC’s Charlie Gibson and Diane Sawyer.
