ABC News Producer Marries Subject of Story

By Chris Ariens

Eric M. Strauss, a producer for ABC’s Newsmagazines has married Bridget Kelly, who was the subject of a story Strauss had covered over the years.

Kelly first told her story to ABC’s “Primetime,” in 2004, reported by Charles Gibson. Then 26-year-old Bridget Kelly was kidnapped, robbed, raped and shot repeatedly. The first grade teacher was left for dead in a field in Killeen, Texas.

On July 7, 10 years and two weeks after the horrific attack, Bridget Kelly and Eric Strauss were married in New York City.

Kelly’s father, Michael Kelly, a columnist with the Omaha World Herald who was featured in the “Primetime” story, wrote a moving piece on the wedding of his daughter.

The groom noted during the exchange of vows that he had met his future bride “during some unusual circumstances.”

“You revealed yourself to be a beautiful warrior the second I met you,” Eric said in front of the wedding congregation. “With your regal elegance, insightfulness and compassion, you inspire me to be better.”
