ABC News Planning ‘What Would You Do?’ Spin-Off

By Alex Weprin

ABC News is piloting a spin-off of its primetime series “What Would You Do?” according to someone familiar with the plans. The network has also posted a casting notice on the “WWYD?” website looking for people to participate. According to the casting notice:

This new program will investigate and explore human psychology and behavior. The casting process will be a fascinating opportunity for those who attend to learn about themselves and their fellow human beings.

The concept sounds very much like “WWYD?” though likely with some minor twists. “WWYD?” has found success as a limited primetime series at ABC, filling in gamely when needed during the week. It has also become an increasingly profitable proposition for the network, as it has sold reruns to HLN, and those reruns do quite well.

The new series, if it goes forward, could be rolled into ABC’s primetime lineup as “WWYD?” was, or sold outright to a network like HLN, with ABC News producing it. It isn’t clear which route the new series will take, or who would host.
