ABC News on Campus Turns Out Award-Winning Student Journalists

By Chris Ariens

CBS News digital journalist Miles Doran was one of four former ABC News on Campus reporters honored last week at the 50th Annual Hearst Journalism Awards.

Doran (left), a recent University of Florida graduate, received $5,000 for first place in the TV division, and an additional $1,000 for Best Use of Television for News Coverage — a prize awarded to the best of all the Hearst entries.

Another former ABC News on Campus reporter, Brandi Kruse who graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, earned the top prizes in the radio division, winning first place for her radio piece and for Best Use of Radio for News Coverage.

Doran, who now lives in New York, plans to put his winnings toward “moving expenses and new furniture … and rent!”

ABCNews.com has more on the winners, including what they had to do to win. TVNewser first reported on the ABC News on Campus program in Sept. 2008, which began with a handful of students at ABC News mini-bureaus on four college campuses.
