ABC, NBC, CBS to Carry Obama Statement on Homeland Security Meeting

The three networks will produce special reports as Pres. Obama makes remarks after meeting this afternoon with 20 homeland security and law enforcement officials at the White House. The group is discussing the glitches which allowed a Nigerian man to smuggle explosives onto Northwest Flight 253 and an attempt to blow it up as the plane approached Detroit on Christmas Day.

NBC’s Brian Williams and ABC’s Diane Sawyer will anchor for their networks. CBS’s Katie Couric is on a shoot in Boston and may make it back in time to anchor the special report, which should begin around 4pmET.

> Update: At 4:43pmET, the president delivered his statement from the White House saying of the thwarted Christmas day attack, “This was not a failure to collect intelligence. It was a failure to integrate and understand the intelligence that we already had.” (AP story). He did not take questions afterward. Here’s how it looked across the broadcast and cable networks:
