With the Sochi Olympics set to start a week from today, ABC News has been touting an “exclusive investigation” into charges of corruption at the Games. For a report that aired on “World News” and “Nightline” Wednesday, Brian Ross interviewed a whistleblower who says there’s a contract on his life because he spoke out about the corruption.
Interesting? Yes. Exclusive? No. CBS News’ Mark Phillips interviewed the man, Valery Morozov, for a similar report that aired on “Evening News” Monday. Both reports featured b-roll of Morozov walking with his dog, and both reports were introduced — by Scott Pelley on CBS and by George Stephanopoulos on ABC — using the exact same phrase: “rampant corruption.”
