ABC’s Miguel Marquez Beaten in Bahrain. AUDIO: ‘I just got beat…rather badly…by a gang of thugs.’

ABC News correspondent Miguel Marquezwas beaten in Bahrain’s capital, Manama early Thursday morning in the latest attack on journalists covering violent protests across the Muslim world.

Marquez was not badly injured, but he was hit with billy clubs and his camera was pulled from his hands while he yelled, “Journalist, journalist, journalist!” over and over again, trying to show he was not a protester.

“Hey! I’m a journalist here! … I’m going! I’m going! I’m going! I’m going! … I’m hit,” he said. Marquez was on the phone with ABC News in New York when the beating occurred so the entire incident was captured on audio:

Yesterday, CBS News revealed that their chief foreign correspondent Lara Logan was beaten and sexually assaulted in Cairo’s Tahrir Square last Friday night.
