A Cable News Legend, Larry King Now Reigns Supreme on Digital

By A.J. Katz

The “great American interrogator,” Larry King will celebrate 60 years in television next May.

He became a TV icon hosting Larry King Live on CNN from 1985 to 2010. He now hosts Larry King Now, a talk show that airs three times a week on Ora TV, an-demand digital network co-created by King and Mexican billionaire Carlos Slim in 2012. “I’m amazed at how long I’ve been doing this,” he tells the Los Angeles Times. “I’ve been distributed by a phone line, cable, satellite, Internet, but I am basically doing the same thing I’ve always done, sat down and asked people questions.”

Most of the guests these days come at the suggestion of his millennial producers, which is probably why pop and YouTube stars are turning up more frequently.

I’ve never turned down a show, because of my curiosity; it’s insatiable. Now, when I’m sitting down to interview a soap opera star, I might not be looking forward to it as much as if it were a major political figure. But once the light goes on, my curiosity kicks in and I’m in the moment. It’s a kind of escape, almost.

We caught up with King a few years ago where he told us about his First Big Break:
