Network Conference Call on Trump May Lead Nowhere

By Mark Joyella

A conference call Monday between the five main news networks to discuss issues related to press coverage of the Trump campaign reportedly ended without any set plans, and may lead to no formal action of any kind.

The Washington Post first reported plans for the network discussion, bringing together representatives of ABC, CBS, CNN, Fox News, and NBC. Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump has had noteworthy conflicts with Fox News over the first GOP debate, Univision anchor Jorge Ramos over questions at a news conference, and more recently, with a CNN journalist who was threatened with being “blacklisted” for failing to remain inside a campaign-designated “press pen.”

Politico reports it is unlikely a formal message from the networks will be sent to the Trump campaign–unless all the networks agree on some kind of formal statement. “The plan, according to one network news executive familiar with the discussions, is to have a call with Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski and work through their issues.”
