Baltimore Rioting Leads All Network Evening Newscasts

Another night of rioting in Baltimore is creating dramatic images of burning businesses and clashes between rioters and police, with rolling coverage on the cable news networks. The chaos, all stemming from the April 19th death of Freddie Gray, led all three network evening newscasts Monday.

ABC’s “World News Tonight” with David Muir branded the story “Baltimore Erupts: City on Edge.” The “CBS Evening News” with Scott Pelley called the story simply “violent protests,” and “NBC Nightly News” with Lester Holt opted for “Baltimore Riots.”

Both CBS and NBC gave the Baltimore story more than six minutes off the top of their broadcasts, while ABC kept it to four and a half minutes. All of the main anchors remained in New York.
