TV Newsers Ready for Super Bowl XLIX

With Super Bowl XLIX quickly approaching, TV Newsers have gathered in Arizona to partake in the big game’s coverage.

NBC is carrying the game, so it’s no surprise that NBCU networks are front and center. NBC’s Al Roker, Willie Geist and Savannah Guthrie will be live for “Today” Friday and Saturday. The “Today” show will unveil its Super Bowl commercial tomorrow.

Guthrie heads to Washington Saturday for her game-day interview with Pres. Barack Obama as part of the network’s pregame coverage. On “Meet the Press,” Chuck Todd will discuss the impact of concussions in football with former player Leonard Marshall and NFPLA executive director Demaurice Smith. In addition, Peter Alexander, Ron Mott, and Hallie Jackson are on the ground reporting for all NBC News platforms.

fantasyhayesMSNBC’s Chris Matthews, Joe Scarborough, Mika Brzezinski, and Ronan Farrow will all anchor from Arizona. Friday’s “Hardball” will feature a Super Bowl-themed broadcast, featuring Boston Mayor Marty Walsh and Seattle Mayor Ed Murray talking about the game and their respective cities.

A special two hour edition of “Morning Joe at Night” airs Friday at 8pmET with Super Bowl Halftime performer Katy Perry, Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton, journalist Mike Lupica and NBC Sports’ Al Michaels.

MSNBC’s Chris Hayes is hoping the success of Fantasy Football translates to the political world. Hayes will host “All In 2016 Fantasy Candidate Draft” tonight at 8pmET. A group of political analysts, reporters and MSNBC contributors will draft political fantasy teams from a field of more than two dozen potential candidates. The network will track the teams through the 2016 Presidential election.

CNBC will cover the business behind the Super Bowl, with Julia Boorstin, Dominic Chu and Jane Wells covering. NBC Sports’ Dave Briggs will also report live from the Super Bowl for CNBC tomorrow.

NicholsOn CNN, Rachel Nichols and Dan Marino (left) host “Kickoff in Arizona” Saturday at 4:30pmET. Nichols will interview Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll, former Super Bowl MVP Drew Brees, Super Bowl legend David Tyree and Packers’ star Randall Cobb will also join the show. HLN’s Mike Galanos will be reporting from Arizona through Monday.

Fox News Channel’s “Fox & Friends” will present live coverage of the NFL experience with FNC’s Brian Kilmeade live from Arizona. He’ll interview Baltimore Ravens head coach John Harbaugh, the Patriots cheerleaders, the University of Arizona marching band and former NFL quarterback Joe Theismann. The co-hosts of “The Five” will make their annual Super Bowl predictions on Friday’s show. Airzona native, FBN’s Cheryl Casone goes behind the scenes at the Super Bowl speaking with NFL legends like Archie Manning and Joe Montana, as well as executives from the game’s biggest sponsors, including Pepsico, GMC, Microsoft, among others.

CBS will have reports from Jan Crawford in Arizona on both the weekend “Evening News” and “Face the Nation,” plus game-day analysis with James Brown. “CBS This Morning: Saturday” will also have an interview with Super Bowl head referee Bill Vinovich. “CBS Sunday Morning” will have Lee Cowan reporting on the company that manufactures the giant video screens that will be on display for the big game and Mark Strassmann covering the fantasy football industry.

On ABC, “Good Morning America’s” Amy Robach will report from Phoenix through Monday. Chief Justice correspondent Pierre Thomas will be reporting on security and correspondent Cecilia Vega is covering the game across all ABC programs and platforms. “GMA” Contributor Jesse Palmer will file a report tomorrow on the NFL Experience.

Al Jazeera America will take a different approach, with Jennifer London reporting on sex trafficking in Arizona during the Super Bowl. London will be joined by Cindy McCain, who has championed the cause. AJAM will also air a report by Morgan Radford focusing on the negative news that has plagued the NFL this season.

The Super Bowl airs in between the multimillion dollar commercials on NBC at 6:30pmET Sunday, February 1.
