CNN has eliminated at least 50 positions across several divisions, TVNewser has learned. Employees in New York, Washington, D.C. and Atlanta at CNN Digital, CNN Money, Newsgathering and the CNN Library were told their positions are changing.
Today’s cuts follow the elimination of 16 positions last month from the image and sound unit in Atlanta. A CNN insider tells TVNewser today’s changes are related to the integration of television and digital newsgathering and that the network is planning on posting several new jobs as early as today. The network’s bottom line head count is not expected to change.
The impacted employees are being told they can take a severance package or apply for the updated positions or other open positions at CNN.
