5 Million Watch Mine Rescue on ‘Nightline’

By Chris Ariens

“Nightline’s” special last night topped NBC’s “The Tonight Show” and CBS’s “The Late Show,” according to preliminary Fast Affiliate data from Nielsen.

“Nightline” was anchored live by Bill Weir outside the San Jose mine as the first few Chilean miners were being brought to the surface.

“Nightline,” which has been pulling in around 3.6 million viewers, averaged 5.042 million Total Viewers from 11:30pm-12am (even though last night’s show went one hour). David Letterman had 3.631 million (11:30pm-12:30am) and Jay Leno drew 3.211 million (11:30pm-12:30am). Final numbers for the week will be released next Thursday.
