Many of the names on Television Week’s annual list of the 10 Most Powerful People in TV News weren’t on the list in 2005.

NBC News prez Steve Capus is #2 and CBS News prez Sean McManus is #3, not bad for two guys that didn’t make the list twelve months ago. (David Westin dropped from #4 to #6.)

Also new to the list: #7 Katie Couric and her agent Alan Berger. She’s two spots ahead of #9 Matt Lauer and Meredith Vieira.

Fox News chair Roger Ailes is top dog, up two spots from #3 last year. Three CNNers, Jim Walton, Jon Klein and Ken Jautz, come in at #10.

NBC’s Tim Russert moved up two spots, from #6 to #4, making him the top-rated talent on the list.

The honorable mention goes to Bob Schieffer for the second year. Powerful names in 2005 who didn’t make the cut this year: Les Moonves, Neal Shapiro, Andrew Heyward, Jeff Zucker.
