VidCon, a YouTuber-filled video conference held annually in Anaheim, California, draws more than 25,000 attendees. Normally, convention goers can check out panels, meet-and-greets and fan activations, but this year, they now have a chance to see their project get off the ground.
In partnership with new media incubator New Form, the Pitch to Pilot lounge will help one lucky creator’s idea become a reality.
“VidCon is one of the biggest gatherings for creators in the content space,” said Kathleen Grace, CEO of New Form, “and is the perfect venue to identify, connect and engage with the upcoming generation of storytellers.”
After the convention wraps up, the top pitches from this campaign will be available online for users to vote on. Executives from New Form, as well as presenting sponsors TBS Digital and Dunkin’ Donuts, will select the winning concept from the fan-selected Top 10, and the winner will be announced in August. The winning pilot will be produced by New Form, with a Dunkin’ Donuts integration, and will be featured on TBS Digital later in the year.
Late last year, TBS ordered an animated comedy project from YouTube creator and indie filmmaker Olan Rogers titled Final Space, which Conan O’Brien’s production company produced.
“Olan pitched us Final Space voicing all the characters and dancing around the conference room,” Thom Hinkle, svp of original programming for TBS, told Deadline at the time. “It was kind of like a comedic Moon, genuinely funny and oddly heartfelt. We bought it in the room. So did other networks. We’re glad he chose us.”
“This is a unique chance for young storytellers to get their foot in the door and have their concept brought to life with the help of great partners like TBS Digital and Dunkin’ Donuts,” said Grace.
