KPHO, Meredith Broadcasting CBS affiliate in Phoenix, Ariz. and Cable One are close to a retransmission agreement, the station said late Tuesday (Dec. 30). Although nothing is officially signed on paper, the tentative pact, covering both analog and digital signals, means that KPHO won’t go dark on the cable system at the end of the year.
Now it’s up to the lawyers. But Ed Munson, vp and general manager for KPHO, isn’t worried. “The business terms are pretty well hammered out. I don’t see anything that will derail this,” Munson said.
Just this morning, Munson wasn’t sure a deal would get done and Meredith issued a press statement saying negotiations with Cable One were “deadlocked.”
“This one was harder that it should have been,” Munson said. “The nice point is that we saw the value that the station is worth [in the deal].”
