There’s one week left in the July ratings period, but WXTV, Univision’s owned-and-operated station in New York is already claiming victory in the key weekday newscasts. If the trend continues, WXTV will be the first Spanish-language TV station in the market to win three newscasts, the local news race at 6 p.m., the network news race at 6:30 p.m. and the local late news at 11 p.m.
Among the 18-49 demo, WXTV’s local newscast at 6 p.m., Noticias Univision 41, has an average-quarter audience of 138,000, topping the 88,000 audience to the local newscast on WABC-TV, ABC’s owned station. WCBS-TV is third, followed by Spanish-language WNJU (Telemundo), Fox Television’s WNYW. WNBC, NBC Universal’s New York flagship is last.
WXTV’s 6 p.m. local newscast was also No. 1 among the 25-54 demo, followed by WABC-TV, WCBS-TV, WNJU, WNYW and WNBC.
Among the network newscasts, Univision’s Noticiero Univision tops the Anglo network newscasts among the 18-49 demo and the 25-54 demo. ABC World News on WABC-TV was No. 2, followed by NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams and the CBS Evening News with Katie Couric.
In late news, WXTV is No. 1 among the 18-49 demo, but No. 2 among the 25-54 demo to WABC-TV’s local newscast.
