Household Rating/Share CBS: 4.1/ 8, NBC: 3.3/ 6, ABC: 2.8/ 5, Fox: 1.8/ 3, CW: 0.6/ 1 Total Viewers: CBS: 6.26 million, NBC: 4.80, ABC: 4.43, Fox: 2.85, CW: 876,000 Adults 18-49: ABC: 1.3 rating/4 share, NBC: 1.2/ 4, CBS: 1.1/ 4, Fox: 0.8/ 3, CW: 0.3/ 1 Note: Any prior rating results are based on the final nationals. Since the level of DVR penetration has increased from 33 percent at this same point last year to approximately 38 percent at present, the overall results may be negatively impacted. Friday’s Winners: Nothing Friday’s Losers (excluding repeats): Friday Night Lights (NBC) and the evening overall. Ratings Breakdown: It was a typically low-rated summer Friday of mixed leadership, with CBS the most-watched network (at 6.26 million viewers) and ABC No. 1 among adults 18-49 (with a 1.3 rating in the demo). Sixty-two percent of Friday’s lineup was encore telecasts. CBS opened the evening with an original installment of Canadian drama Flashpoint (Viewers: #1, 6.23 million; A18-49: #1t, 1.2 rating/5 share at 8 p.m.), which is not the attraction it once was, followed by repeats of CSI: N.Y. (Viewers: #1, 5.96 million; A18-49: #3, 0.9/ 3) and Blue Bloods (Viewers: #1, 6.58 million; A18-49: #3, 1.0/ 3) from 9-11 p.m. Fox filled the evening with repeats of Bones (Viewers: #3, 3.13 million; A18-49: #3, 0.8/ 3) and House (Viewers: #4, 2.58 million; A18-49: #4, 0.8/ 3). Elsewhere, repeats of ABC’s Shark Tank (Viewers: #2, 4.09 million; A18-49: #1t, 1.2/ 5 at 8 p.m.) and Primetime: What Would You Do? (Viewers: #3, 3.95 million; A18-49: #2, 1.3/ 4 at 9 p.m.) led into long-running newsmagazine 20/20 at 5.24 million viewers (#3) and a second-place 1.4/ 5 among adults 18-49 at 10 p.m. NBC aired the second-to-last episode of Friday Night Lights (Viewers: #4, 3.00 million; A18-49: #4, 0.7/ 3), which never had the luxury of finding an audience, followed by two-hours of Dateline at 5.70 million viewers (#2) and a dominant 1.5/ 5 in the demo from 9-11 p.m. Last-place The CW aired encore telecasts of Smallville (Viewers: #5, 1.05 million; A18-49: #5, 0.4/ 1) and Supernatural (Viewers: #5, 704,000; A18-49: #5, 0.3/ 1). Unlike Saturday, which the networks have abandoned, Friday next season will feature two new dramas (CBS’ A Gifted Man and Grimm on NBC) and new time periods for ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, the final season of NBC’s Chuck, and Nikita on The CW. Since ABC has pushed Shark Tank back to midseason, what the network will air in the Friday 9 p.m. hour this fall has not been determined. Saturday’s Winners: Nothing as usual Saturday’s Losers (excluding repeats): Chaos (CBS) and the night overall Ratings Breakdown: There was nothing of note on this second Saturday of July, with CBS the most-watched network (at under 4-million viewers) and Fox No. 1 among adults 18-49 (at a mere 0.9 rating in the demo). CBS opened with another burn-off episode of spy drama Chaos (Viewers: #2, 2.85 million; A18-49: #4, 0.5/ 2 at 8 p.m.), which earned its cancellation stripes, followed by two episodes of 48 Hours Mystery, one repeat and one original, as follows: 48 Hours Mystery 9:00 p.m. – Viewers: 3.93 million (#1), A18-49:0.7/ 3 (#2) – R 10:00 p.m. – Viewers: 5.94 million (#1), A18-49: 1.1/ 4 (#1) – most-watched show of the evening As for sitcom Rules of Engagement moving into the Saturday 8 p.m. half-hour this fall (into comedy repeats), don’t let the network fool you. CBS is only keeping the sitcom in original production so Sony Pictures Television can have more episodes for off-network syndication. Poor Goldie Hawn . . . no one will be watching son Oliver’s show! Fox aired two repeat episodes of Cops from 8-9 p.m. (Viewers: #1, avg. 3.17 million; A18-49: #1, avg. 1.0/ 4 from 8-9 p.m.), followed by repeats of Family Guy (Viewers: #3, 2.02 million; A18-49: #1, 0.9/ 3) and The Cleveland Show (Viewers: #4, 1.66 million; A18-49: #2, 0.7/ 3) from 9-10 p.m. Elsewhere, NBC populated the lackluster evening with repeats of game show Minute to Win It (Viewers: #4, 2.06 million; A18-49: #4, 0.4/ 2), Law & Order: Criminal Intent (Viewers: #2, 3.40 million; A18-49: #3, 0.6/ 2) and Law & Order: SVU (Viewers: #2, 4.27 million; A18-49: #2, 0.9/ 3). Yesterday’s Winners: 60 Minutes R (CBS), Big Brother (CBS), A Special Edition of Primetime With Diane Sawyer—Jaycee Dugard in Her Own Words (ABC) Yesterday’s Losers: Golf coverage (NBC), The Marriage Ref (NBC) Ratings Breakdown: ABC was front and center on this second Sunday in July, with a 62 percent advantage in the metered markets over second-place CBS. In the distant No. 3 spot was NBC, followed by Fox, which aired a night of all repeats. A Special Edition of Primetime With Diane Sawyer—Jaycee Dugard in Her Own Words on ABC was the standout, with a 9.8 rating/16 share in the overnights from 9-11 p.m. Here is the half-hour breakdown: Jaycee Dugard in Her Own Words (ABC) 9:00 p.m.: 9.2/15 (#1) 9:30 p.m.: 9.8/16 (#1) 10:00 p.m.: 10.3/17 (#1) 10:30 p.m.: 10.1/17 (#1) Comparably, this built from a repeat of lead-in Extreme Makeover: Home Edition (#2: 3.4/ 6 at 8 p.m.) by a whopping 188 percent. Earlier in the evening on ABC was a repeat of America’s Funniest Home Videos at a third-place 3.1/ 6 at 7 p.m. Over at CBS, the Sunday 8 p.m. time period return of Big Brother led the hour with a 4.4/ 7 in the overnights. Comparably, this was on par from one year earlier. Although a repeat of lead-in 60 Minutes was stronger in the overnights, with a 6.3/12 at 7 p.m., Big Brother will certainly hold a noticeable advantage among key adults 18-49. Also airing on CBS last night were repeats of Undercover Boss (#2: 2.6/ 4) and CSI: Miami (#2: 2.9/ 5) from 9-11 p.m. On NBC, perennial Dateline in the 7 p.m. hour (#2: 3.3/ 6) led into two hours of golf coverage (which was coded as a repeat) at a miniscule 1.6/ 3 in the overnights from 8-10 p.m. Minus any lead-in support, The Marriage Ref at 10 p.m. finished a distant third with a 1.6/ 3. Week three of comedy Wilfred on FX finished considerably below its debut telecast, with a loss of 1.03 million viewers (2.55 to 1.52 million) and 42 percent among adults 18-49 (1.2 to 0.7).
