Nexstar's KBTV to Drop NBC Affiliation for Fox

KBTV-TV, Nexstar Broadcasting Group’s station in Beaumont, Texas will drop its affiliation with NBC for Fox beginning Jan. 1, 2009. The move ends a 50-year affiliation with NBC, whose prime time has been struggling in the ratings.

As a result, Fox, which currently airs on Blue Bonnett Communications KUIL-LP (a low power station), will end up with a much stronger signal in the No. 141 market.

In explaining the affiliation change, Perry Sook, CEO and group president of Nexstar said in a statement that it was part of the company’s “strategic approach to managing its station portfolio.”

“We elected to switch to Fox as it enables Nexstar to broadcast its excellent local news and other programming in additional time slots to meet viewer preferences.
