NewsBeast in Final Talks With Union About Merger

Newsweek and The Daily Beast are in final talks with the Newspaper Guild about staffing issues related to their merger, Adweek has learned.

The union, which represents some 90 Newsweek editorial staffers, is meeting Friday with representatives of the companies. The outcome could provide some clarity for Newsweek employees, especially about whether there’ll be buyouts forthcoming. Morale at the weekly has been declining as Tina Brown, the editor of the combined entity, has been making hires and rumors of impending cuts are swirling.
