Hoping to expand its progressive Talk radio brand to digital platforms, Air America Media (formerly known as Air America Radio) has named Michael Bassik to the newly-created position of chief digital officer, the company announced Tuesday (Sept. 30). Bassik was most recently vp of interactive marketing for MSHC Partners.
In his new position, Bassik will build Air America’s digital strategy, with the goal of developing AirAmerica.com into a leading source for independent news, commentary and community.
The appointment follows Beau Friedlander’s appointment as Air America’s first editor-in-chief of Air America’s Web site.
Pursuing digital platforms could potentially represent more growth for the radio network, which has failed to increase distribution much beyond its 60 station affiliates.
“Michael’s background is ideal to lead Air America’s digital growth,” said Bennett Zier, CEO for Air America. “As the nation’s leading online political marketing expert, he will have a significant influence on making Air America’s online presence a superior, user-friendly, interactive experience for our viewers, readers, listeners and advertisers.”
