For a network that has lost nearly a quarter of its GRPs, MTV’s upfront slate is not particularly ambitious.

The network on Thursday announced it has given the green light to three new series while ordering a pilot based on the four-volume horror-movie franchise, Scream.

Dimension Films is producing the hour-long TV version of Wes Craven and Kevin Williamson’s $500 million cash cow, with Craven in talks to direct. The show has been in development since last June.

The timing of the project is a bit curious, as the latest installement in the series, SCRE4M, grossed just $38.2
