DISH to Carry HD Proramming From Tribune Stations

DISH Network Corp. and Tribune have signed a retransmission agreement to carry the HD signals of WGN America and 23 Tribune stations in 19 markets, DISH announced Thursday (June 12). As part of the new pact, DISH Network this week will begin the carry HD programming from four Tribune stations, KCPQ (Fox) in Seattle.; WPIX (CW) in New York; WGN-TV (CW) in Chicago; and KTXL (Fox) in Sacramento, Calif.

Part of the appeal for DISH was the ability to carry Cubs and White Sox games in HD, as well as Chicago Bulls, also broadcast in HD, in keeping with DISH’s announced strategy to enhance its HD programming line-up throughout 2008. By the end of the year, DISH is committed to reach a year-end goal of 100 local HD markets and 100 national HD channels.

“Now, DISH Network subscribers throughout the country can follow this exciting season in high definition, especially the upcoming cross-town battles between he Cubs and Sox at Wrigley Field and U.S. Cellular Field later this month,” said Eric Sahl, senior vp of programming for DISH Network.
