(ABC), Fringe (Fox) ---------- -Ratings Breakdown:CBS led the struggling Friday troops, beating the No. 2 network (NBC in total viewers, Fox in adults 18-49) by 4.79 million viewers and 0.2 rating points among adults 18-49. But winning the night with under a 2-rating in the demo is not what you would call impressive. In what could be series-finale news, CBS’ relocated The Defenders signed-off with a dominant 9.03 million viewers and a second-place 1.5 rating/5 share among adults 18-49 at 8 p.m. On another network, this could have been a series worth renewing. But since CBS has so few holes to fill, The Defenders is considered a goner. Next on CBS was CSI: NY (Viewers: #1, 11.04 million; A18-49: #1, 2.0/ 6 at 9 p.m.), which is also a question mark to return if CBS decides to trim the CSI franchise, followed by Blue Bloods (Viewers: #1, 11.75 million; A18-49: #1t, 1.9/ 6 at 10 p.m.). Count on freshman Blue Bloods returning next season. NBC opened the evening with a repeat of already renewed Who Do You Think You Are? (Viewers: #4, 3.94 million; A18-49: #4, 0.9/ 3 at 8 p.m.), followed by two-hours of Dateline at 6.74 million viewers and a 1.7/ 5 among adults 18-49 from 9-11 p.m. Here is the half-hour breakdown: Dateline (NBC) 9:00 p.m. – Viewers: 6.32 million (#2), A18-49: 1.4/ 4 (#3t) 9:30 p.m. – Viewers: 6.43 million (#2), A18-49: 1.5/ 5 (#2t)10:00 p.m. – Viewers: 7.00 million (#2), A18-49: 1.9/ 6 (#1t)10:30 p.m. – Viewers: 7.23 million (#2), A18-49: 1.9/ 6 (#2t) Fox populated this second Friday in March with uneventful Kitchen Nightmares (Viewers: #2, 4.13 million; A18-49: #1, 1.7/ 6 at 8 p.m.), and relocated Fringe, which dipped to a season-low 3.76 million viewers (#4) and a 1.5/ 5 among adults 18-49 (#2) at 9 p.m. Given the networks are currently preparing the blueprints for next season, now is not the time to dip to a below-average performance. Elsewhere, ABC aired Supernanny (Viewers: #3, 4.01 million; A18-49: #3, 1.4/ 4), which officially concludes next week, Primetime: What Would You Do? (Viewers: #3, 4.35 million; A18-49: #3t, 1.4/ 4) and 20/20 (Viewers: #3, 5.88 million; A18-49: #3, 1.6/ 5). And The CW capped off the evening with repeats of Smallville (Viewers: #5, 1.56 million; A18-49: #5, 0.5/ 2) and Supernatural (Viewers: #5, 1.32 million; A18-49: #5, 0.5/ 2). Penney (ABC) and the night overall. ---------- -Ratings Breakdown:CBS inched past the home of Cops and America’s Most Wanted, Fox, for first in total viewers on this second Saturday in March. But 4.89 million viewers is nothing to boast about. Nor is the 1.6 rating/6 share among adults 18-49 for dominant Fox. CBS aired repeats of NCIS (Viewers: #3, 4.06 million; A18-49: #3, 0.8 rating/3 share) and spin-off NCIS: Los Angeles (Viewers: #1, 5.55 million; A18-49: #2, 0.9/ 3) from 8-10 p.m., followed by long-running 48 Hours Mystery at just 5.04 million viewers (#1) and a 0.9/ 3 among adults 18-49 (#1t) at 10 p.m. Fox had nothing unusual to report with aforementioned Cops (original and repeat – Viewers: #1, avg. 4.82 million; A18-49: #1, avg. 1.6/ 6 from 8-9 p.m.) and America’s Most Wanted (Viewers: #2, 4.94 million; A18-49: #1, 1.6/ 6 at 9 p.m.). NBC filled the evening with encore telecasts of Harry’s Law (Viewers: #2, 4.24 million; A18-49: #4, 0.7/ 3), Law & Order: Los Angeles (Viewers: #3, 3.81 million; A18-49: #3, 0.7/ 2) and Law & Order: SVU (Viewers: #2, 4.89 million; A18-49: #1, 1.1/ 4). And smack in the middle of repeats of ABC’s Wipeout (Viewers: #4, 3.09 million; A18-49: #2, 0.9/ 3 at 8 p.m.) and Secret Millionaire (Viewers: #3, 3.07 million; A18-49: #2t, 0.9/ 3 at 10 p.m.) was original special Rascal Flatts: Nothing Like This Presented by J.C. Penney at a minute 2.53 million viewers (#4) and a 0.6/ 2 among adults 18-49 (#4) at 9 p.m. Had the special been any good, ABC would not have buried in on Saturday in March. But it was still hands down the highest rated regularly scheduled series on basic cable for the evening. In the distant No. 2 spot was recently launched USA drama Fairly Legal (Viewers: 2.81 million; A18-49: 0.9), followed by animated FX sitcom Archer at 1.02 million viewers and a 0.5 in the demo. No official time period has been announced yet. -New Game Show on NBC:NBC has ordered eight episodes of a new game show tentatively titled called Still Standing, which is based on a hit Israeli series of the same name and features contestants trying to out-guess 10 competitors in 10 fast-paced trivia questions. No official launch date has been announced. Still Standing was, by the way, the name of a CBS sitcom that aired from 2002 to 2006. -Dog Whisperer Has a New Home:National Geographic Channel staple Dog Whisperer with Cesar Millan has a new home, National Geo Wild, with 10 new episodes ordered for early 2012.
