CBS Television Stations and CBS Mobile announced Wednesday (Jan. 13) the launch of iPhone and iPhone Touch apps for the CBS owned-and-operated TV stations in 13 markets.
The apps were created in partnership with Treemo Labs and Transpera, which powered the pre-roll video and advertising capabilities.
The CBS TV apps deliver local and national news, video, slideshows, weather and even Twitter updates from news anchors and reporters at the local stations.
Advertising opportunities include banners, rich media such as interstitials and expandable ads, and pre- and post-roll for video.
“The CBS Television Stations applications are a logical extension of our CBS News app; they give us the chance to engage users at a grassroots level and expose them to the news that matters to them the most,” said Rob Gelick, senior vp and general manager of CBS Mobile.
Though spending on local mobile is small now, most pundits predict it will be the next big advertising trend. By 2013, BIA/Kelsey is forecasting that local mobile ad revenue will reach more than $3.1 billion, from $330 million in 2009.
