Despite nagging questions about its legitimacy and its future, the hot car service/tech startup Uber just raised $1.2 billion.
Google is spending $3.2 billion to buy Nest, the hardware for the home technology startup. The acquisition is Google’s second-most expensive purchase after its 2012 deal to buy Motorola for $12.5 billion. Nest was founded in 2010, and develops smart thermostats and smoke detectors in a growing category of connected devices.
A lot of investor money has flowed to mobile ad startups, but much has been siphoned toward companies working on how to better target mobile ads or build ties between mobile and desktop users. Instead of focusing on how ads get distributed and to whom, Namo Media (short for “native mobile”) aims to fix where they get distributed and what they look like.
