Weather Channel Green-lights 6 New Series in Time for First Upfront in 5 Years

The Weather Channel held its first full-blown upfront presentation this morning at the Mandarin Oriental in New York, with Weather Co. president David Kenny touting a new slate of originals and recent shows that represent a change in the forecast for the elderly cable network.

Layoffs Hit the Weather Channel

The Weather Channel laid off some 7 percent of its work force today according to independently confirmed reports (Mediabistro first reported the news). The network is owned, as of 2007, by a consortium composed of Bain Capital, NBCUniversal and the Blackstone Group, and is among the most widely-distributed networks on cable.
