Zynga's Looney Tunes Dash Runs onto iOS, Android

Zynga has announced the launch of Looney Tunes Dash on iOS and Android devices. The game is a twist on the traditional “runner” genre, offering level-based objectives to complete, rather than an endless gameplay loop. Developed in partnership with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment and Eat Sleep Play, Looney Tunes Dash stars multiple playable characters and features plenty of cameos from the Looney Tunes universe. Players begin by playing as Bugs Bunny, running from Elmer Fudd in an attempt to make it the rabbit hole at the end of the stage. As players progress, they’ll unlock access to levels starring Road Runner, Tweety Bird and more, each with their own appropriate setting, obstacles and enemies. Some levels may offer secondary goals, like collecting carrots in bulk as Bugs Bunny, for instance. In each level of Looney Tunes Dash, players run away from the screen, swiping left and right to move between lanes, and swiping up to jump over obstacles or swiping down to slide under them. Environments are sometimes split into two separate paths, giving players a choice for which path to take, with some paths marked as “expert” paths that offer extra difficulty. Coins are scattered through each environment, alongside power-ups and bonus point balloons. These powers include a vacuum for collecting all nearby coins, and two that cause characters to become invincible for a time. To be specific, one turns players into Gossamer, who can run through all obstacles to destroy them, while another turns the player into a super hero, capable of flying over the path for a short period of time. The duration of these powers can be increased using coins. In addition, each character has their own special power, unlocked at specific level milestones. Bugs Bunny, for instance, has a “Super Stomp,” which lets players destroy all nearby obstacles and earn bonus points. This charges automatically as players run, or can be charged instantly by picking up a boost while running. Rounding out the experience are special Looney Tunes cards that can be found in some levels while running. As the game's levels are split into sections based on "episodes" from the Looney Tunes universe, the cards themselves contain content from those episode collections, and offer more fan service to players. Players earn up to three stars on each level, depending on their score, and can view their score alongside their friends’ on level-specific leaderboards. If players fail to complete a stage without hitting an obstacle, they’ll lose a life and can retry the stage from the beginning. Players also have the option of paying premium currency to keep running without starting over. These lives recharge automatically over time. “As soon as players jump into Looney Tunes Dash, we want them to be struck by a sense of familiarity and the unique rush of being able to escape Elmer’s clutches and dodge falling anvils,” said John vanSuchtelen, Zynga's general manager of Looney Tunes Dash, in a statement. “While the setting will instantly evoke memories for Looney Tunes fans, we’re also delivering a unique experience based on the requests we heard most often from players – a Runner game that rewards completion and puts new challenges around every twist and turn. Working closely with Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, we quickly realized that the Looney Tunes brand is perfectly suited for the fast-paced and unpredictable nature of mobile Runner games. We can’t wait for players to jump in and discover it for themselves." Looney Tunes Dash features 90 levels at launch, and is available in 16 languages. The game is available to download for free on the iTunes App Store and Google Play.
