The Facebook tidal wave seems to be unleashing across the social gaming ecosphere. The latest extension of Facebook’s social connectedness comes from none other than Zynga itself which today unveiled ‘Zynga Direct’, an extension of its ZLive platform that will serve as a new discovery and distribution channel for the social gaming powerhouse. More after the jump.
Zynga’s strategy to connect directly with its consumers started over a year back as Zynga and Facebook seemed to be dissenting from each other’s strategies. Zynga eventually succumbed to the pressure and fully integrated Credits into its games. Fast forward, Zynga’s relationship with Facebook remains strong and dependant as there are currently over 250 million Zynga players on Facebook.
Zynga has been exploring Google+ in addition to Facebook and its no mystery others are going well beyond Facebook as we revealed yesterday that combined social gaming revenues coming from other social networks trump the revenue generated on Facebook.
“It’s a platform for a direct relationship with consumers whether on the web, or on mobile, to give you a whole sandbox and create socialness about the games and not just within the games,” Zynga chief executive Mark Pincus said.
Although its not clear if this will sit as a social gaming network on its own, in its current state Zynga Direct has a myriad of Facebook tie-ins and could also roll out Google+ support in the near future. This announcement comes soon after Zynga launched three HTML5 games to run with Facebook’s iPad app. In a press conference Mark Pincus also stated that they are preparing the launch of 10 new games for iPad.
Everyone from Storm8 to Wooga is moving in which may accelerate HTML5 as a proven gaming technology but much remains to be seen.
