YouTube Announces Your Film Festival $500K Winner, Watch The Film

By Megan O'Neill

Back in January, YouTube announced Your Film Festival, a YouTube-centric film festival with a massive prize of $500,000 and the opportunity to work with Ridley Scott’s production team.  In June, the pool of entrants was narrowed down to 50 finalists, last month the top 10 films were announced and this week YouTube has announced the big winner—filmmaker David Victori and his film “The Guilt.”

“The Guilt” tells the story of a man seeking revenge following the murder of his wife, playing out different scenarios and dealing with the guilt that goes along with them.  It’s just short of thirteen minutes and definitely worth the watch (It’s pretty beautifully made and at one point while watching I actually yelled aloud at the screen!).

Along with the prestige of winning one of YouTube’s first major film competitions and being selected as the top film from over 15,000 entries, David Victori gets $500,000 to create a new project on YouTube, with help from Ridley Scott’s Scott Free Productions.  You can subscribe to his YouTube channel to stay up to date on the project.

Additionally, Your Film Festival has released the following video of the Your Film Festival finalists in Venice, ending with the announcement of Victori’s…victory!  The announcement is made by Michael Fassbender.

What do you think of “The Guilt”?  Do you think it deserves to be the Your Film Festival winner?
