At VidCon last month, Director of YouTube Next Lab, Tim Shey, announced that the video site was launching a new rewards program to recognize exceptional partners. YouTube partners that have over 1 million subscribers will be rewarded with a giant, framed gold play button and partners that have reached 100,000 subscribers will be rewarded with gift cards for exclusive YouTube gear. Today the first batch of YouTube Partner Rewards recipients was revealed.
Shey reports on the YouTube blog that, “The channels receiving YouTube Partner Rewards have surpassed 500 million subscribers and 251 BILLION views (or 36 views for each person on Earth).” Nearly 80 channels have already qualified for, and will be receiving, the big gold play button, including EpicMealTime, Ellen Degeneres, Michelle Phan, Katy Perry, Justin Bieber, Mondo Media and more. 1,400 channels will be receiving $500 gift cards and camera cases. You can view the full list of recipients at youtube.com/partnerrewards.
Note that this is not just a one-time thing. YouTube will be updating the list on a regular basis and sending out rewards to partners as they hit the 100,000 and 1 million subscriber mark—all the more reason to get out there and start promoting your channel and subscribing to your favorite channels to help them earn rewards! Creators: remember that asking viewers to subscribe or adding a subscribe button annotation within your videos is a great way to boost your subscriber count.
