UK Film Buffs! YouTube Movie Rentals Now Available In The UK

By Megan O'Neill

Film lovers in the UK can now get their fill of their favorite flicks on YouTube.  That’s right—today YouTube announced that they’ve taken their movie rental service to the UK.

YouTube launched their movie rental service in the US back in May and they let Canadians in on the action too, launching movie rentals in Canada last month.  Now viewers in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland have access to over a thousand full-length feature films on YouTube.

The films available to UK viewers include a mix of major Hollywood and British studio productions and include British classics like Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Monty Python’s The Meaning of Life to blockbusters like Reservoir Dogs and The Dark Night and new releases like Fast Five and Hanna.  If you’re in the UK you can check out the full selection at

Matteo Vallone, YouTube Business Product Manager, writes on the YouTube blog, “Britain has a long history of cinema, starting from the first moving pictures being developed on celluloid film in the UK.  Now British film buffs can be part of the digital revolution too.”

If you are in the UK, do you think you’ll be renting movies on YouTube?  If not, how do you get your online movie fix?
