A new school year is in session and as teachers and students head back to school, YouTube is getting its education on as well. Today the video site announced a new partnership with Khan Academy to find the Next EDU Gurus—10 top engaging educational content creators that will be rewarded with special training, promotion, $1000 B&H gift cards for production equipment and more.
Angela Lin, Head of Education at YouTube, writes on the YouTube blog, “We believe that inspiring online educators can come from all walks of life, and we want to find the next generation of educational YouTube stars – people with a talent for explaining tough concepts in compelling ways, and the passion and drive to assemble a global classroom of students.”
The 10 YouTube Next EDU Gurus will be selected by a panel made up of members of the YouTube Education team, as the Khan Academy. One top educator will also be awarded the Khan Academy EDU Guru Prize.
There is a huge demand for educational content on YouTube. Lin writes that, “In the last year, you all spent 50% more time learning from YouTube Education’s 700,000 videos, and the number of subscribers to YouTube’s educational channels more than doubled.” Additionally, teachers can browse more than 300 playlists on various common education topics at youtube.com/teachers.
Content creators from all walks of life, who create all sorts of different curriculum-related videos are welcome to apply to be one of the Next EDU Gurus. The program is open to creators in the United States, Canada, the UK, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand. They’re looking for prolific educators. “Bear in mind that we’re looking for content creators who can take people on a journey through a topic, so if you could imagine making ten, twenty, or fifty more videos on the topic in the future, all the better!”
Do you create educational content on YouTube? If so, will you be applying for this exciting program?
