Last week YouTube officially launched a new redesign, featuring a major emphasis on subscriptions that includes a Guide that lets users easily navigate through the channels they’ve subscribed to. Now the Guide is available on the YouTube app for Android tablets, as well as the mobile website for tablets.
Software engineers Waldemar Baraldi and Dan Delima posted the following announcement on YouTube’s Google+ page last night:
“YouTube looks awesome on tablets, so today we’ve updated our YouTube app for Android tablets, as well as our mobile website for tablets (m.youtube.com).
“In the Android app on tablet, you’ll see a refreshed YouTube experience including a Guide that provides easy access to your favorite channels and ways to discover new ones.
“While we’ve recently launched the YouTube app for iPad, we know many of you enjoy using the mobile website (m.youtube.com). Today, that site is refreshed for the tablet experience too, featuring the same Guide with your subscriptions and easier controls for sending videos from your tablet to your TV.”
The new YouTube Guide brings a little bit more of a television-esque feel to the online video site, as users can surf through the different channels that they are subscribed to and more easily discover new channels that they may be interested in. This is only fitting, with YouTube’s premium channel push over the last year.
Back in November of 2011, YouTube’s VP of Global Sales, Lucas Watson, said in an interview with Beet.TV, “We’re looking forward to being able to bring all the great content we’ve talked about to the viewer in a TV-like experience.” With the new Guide feature on the web and tablets, it looks like YouTube is taking things one step closer to this “TV-like experience.”
