Back in September an official YouTube app launched on iPhone and iPod touch, but Apple fans everywhere were asking, “Where’s the YouTube iPad app?” After all, the iPad’s larger screen makes it ideal for watching YouTube videos in bed or on the go. Three months later, YouTube has finally launched versions of the app designed for iPad and iPhone 5.
Horia Ciurdar, software engineer at YouTube, writes on the YouTube blog, “More than 25 percent of all YouTube watching happens on mobile. This past September you got the YouTube app for iPhone and iPod touch to make it easier to find and share the videos and channels you love on YouTube, and you made us the #1 free app in the App Store for two months.”
YouTube is likely to see similar success with this new app for the iPad. In addition to a design optimized for iPad viewing, the new app features “enhanced AirPlay support, videos that start faster and play more smoothly, and improved accessibility with VoiceOver.” These optimizations and updates have also been made on the iPhone and iPod touch apps.
