YouTube Celebrates Its 7th Birthday, 72 Hours Of Video Now Uploaded Every Minute

By Megan O'Neill

Last May YouTube celebrated its sixth birthday with an announcement that more than 48 hours of video were being uploaded every minute and that the site was racking up 3 billion daily views.  In January of this year, they increased that number to 60 hours of video per minute and now, to celebrate birthday number 7 YouTube has announced that a whopping 72 hours of video is being uploaded to the site every minute!

The YouTube Team writes, “Like many 7 year olds around the world, we’re growing up so fast!  In other words, every single minute you now upload three who days worth of video instead of two.  That’s 61 Royal Wedding Ceremonies, 841 Bad Romances, and 1,194 Nyan Cats.”

To commemorate their seventh birthday, YouTube has put together a video timeline showing off the growth of the site through the year.  It features some of the biggest YouTube videos and news from throughout the years, as well as statistics that illustrate the site’s growth over time.

The speed at which YouTube is growing is pretty astonishing.  In one year they went from having 48 hours of video a minute to 72—that’s three days a minute!  How long do you think it will be before four days of video are being uploaded every minute?  When, if ever, will things start to level out?
