Yahoo Acquires New York Startup Stamped

Yahoo has agreed to acquire the year-and-a-half-old Google Ventures-backed New York startup, Stamped, which lets users post commentary on other web content and share it with Stamped social contacts. The Stamped product will be shuttered, putting this deal in the acqui-hire camp. Stamped staff consists primarily, like Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer, of ex-Googlers.

Yahoo has agreed to acquire the year-and-a-half-old New York startup, Stamped, which lets users post commentary on content around the Web and share it with Stamped social contacts.

The Stamped team will found Yahoo’s first engineering office in New York.

The Stamped product will be shuttered, putting this deal in the acqui-hire camp. Stamped staff consists primarily, like Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer, of ex-Googlers. The startup was backed by Google Ventures.

“We’ve all worked with and are big fans of Marissa,” the company announced on its website.
