Wargaming’s World of Tanks Blitz has launched exclusively on iOS, bringing tank MMO action to gamers on the small screen. The game features over 90 German, American and Soviet vehicles from four overall tank classes: light, medium, heavy and destroyer. Each has a different specialty and skill set for players to explore.
In the game’s eight original battle arenas, players choose their active tank and head into battle against others in a 7-on-7 format. Users control their tanks with a virtual joystick on the left side of the screen, while the camera is controlled by tapping and swiping on the right side.
This camera control also changes the direction of the tank’s canon, which auto-locks onto both stationary and moving enemies. For long-distance combat, users can enable sniper mode for a zoomed in view of the environment. Highlighted portions of a tank indicate the strongest armor panels, as well as weak spots, so players can quickly determine whether they need to approach an enemy from another direction for better success.
Depending on the kind of tank, a user’s strategy may change. That is, a light tank is agile, and capable of quickly moving around the environment, while a tank destroyer is best when attacking from long-distances.
In between battles, players can upgrade their tank, or simply purchase a resupply on ammunition before heading back into combat. Power-ups may give gamers the option of extinguishing fires in their tanks or healing their crew members, while upgraded weapons, engines and other parts can increase a tank’s firepower, movement speed and other stats.
“With World of Tanks Blitz, we aim to bring our expertise in delivering triple-A MMOs to the competitive mobile space,” said Andrey Ryabovol, Director of Global Operations at Wargaming. “The team succeeded in creating a quality original product that puts a fresh twist on tank combat, and it will be great to see players from all over the world get their hands on it.”
World of Tank Blitz is available to download for free on iOS, and is currently featured as an Editor’s Choice app on iTunes. The app is No. 21 on the iTunes Top Free iPhone Apps chart and No. 2 on iPad.
