The Shorty Award nominations are in full swing, and we’ve got the update about who’s in the lead, who has been added to the Real-Time Academy judges panel, and how you can get involved. If you follow anyone you think deserves some recognition for being an awesome Twitter user, you have a week and a half to get your nominations in.
If you’re scratching your head about what exactly the Shorty Awards are, you can read more about them at the official Shorty Awards website, and find out how to vote for your Twitter idols to get them the recognition they deserve.
There’s just a week and a half before the nominations for the best Twitter users across dozens of categories is closed, and the Real-Time Academy gets down to work picking the finalists to be presented with their awards in March.
As the nominations draw to a close, the Real-Time Academy has added some exciting new members to its roster of social media leaders. Along with famous faces in social media like Jimmy Wales, founder of Wikipedia, and Craig Newmark, founder of Craigslist, the Real-Time Academy has two new members that Natan Edelsburg of the Shorty Awards is excited about:
“We’ve added Dennis Crowley (@dens) the CEO and Co-Founder of Foursquare and most recently we’ve added celebrity Whitney Port (@WhitneyEvePort). They’re both extremely influential individuals who we recognized are using the social web to promote their products and connect with fans. We’re very honored to have them be part of the body that selects the winners.”
In addition to these high-profile new faces on the Shorty Awards judges panel, we’ve got an updated list of who’s in the lead in several choice categories.
It might come as no surprise, by Justin Bieber is leading the “Celebrity” category with 1786 votes so far. The second place celeb, Ivete Sangalo, has just 402.
William Bonner is in first place in the “Journalist” category, clocking 423 votes. In the “Politics” category, Dusty Trice has taken the lead with 365 votes, and shaycarl is leading the “Social Media” category with 1340 votes.
If you think someone else deserves the top spot, you still have time to shake up these rankings and vote for your favorite Twitter user before January 31st!
