Messaging application WhatsApp appears to be testing a voice-calling feature on its Android app, with TechCrunch sharing screenshots that were originally posted to Reddit by user Pradnesh Patil, as well as a YouTube video (embedded below).
According to TechCrunch, Patil first discovered the feature when a fellow WhatsApp user who had access to it used it to call him, and functionality appears to include a speakerphone setting, a mute button and the ability to send messages while on a call.
TechCrunch reported that the calling feature is available on version 2.11.508 of the WhatsApp client, but that version is not yet available via Google Play.
Patil is based in India, and Tech Times reported other sightings of the feature by WhatsApp users in that country.
