Facebook’s latest “acqu-hire” is a sound one, literally, as reports by TechCrunch and VentureBeat indicated that the team behind audio-production company WaveGroup Sound has joined Facebook, although the company was not acquired.
TechCrunch reported that WaveGroup specialized in sound for games, producing tracks for titles including the Guitar Hero series, Rock Band and Dance Dance Revolution, and adding that its final pre-Facebook project was the music for new iOS game Star Wars: Commander.
The news was initially broken by TechCrunch after reading this on WaveGroup’s LinkedIn page:
WaveGroup was a critically-acclaimed audio-production company that specialized in sound for games and product design. Formally housed in a 6,000-square-foot facility located in the San Francisco Bay area, the staff of WaveGroup became the full time sound-design team for Facebook in 2014.
Facebook then confirmed to VentureBeat that it did not acquire the company, but that several former WaveGroup employees were now part of the social network’s design team via the traditional hiring process.
