Voting Opens For Your Film Festival, The YouTube Contest With A $500,000 Prize

By Megan O'Neill

Back in January we told you about Your Film Festival, a short film festival hosted by YouTube, Ridley Scott and Emirates that will reward the winner with $500,000 to use towards their next film, which will be produced by Ridley Scott, Michael Fassbender and a team of world class filmmakers.  Ridley Scott’s Scot Free team has narrowed the submissions down to 50 semi-finalists.  The films of those finalists are now on YouTube and you are invited to vote for your favorites.

Voting is open until July 13 at  You can watch the films from all fifty semi-finalists, create a personal playlist and vote for your favorites.  Note that you can only vote once a day for each video.

Voting will narrow the competitors down to ten finalists and the winner will be selected by a panel of industry professionals, including Ridley Scott and Michael Fassbender (who stars in Ridley Scott’s latest blockbuster, Prometheus).  The ten finalists will have their films screened at the 2012 Venice Film Festival, where the winner will be announced.

What can you expect from the semi-finalist’s films?  The requirements were to “submit a 15-minute, story-driven video of any format, style and genre.  Your entry could be a short film, web-series episode, TV pilot, or something else – as long as it’s story-driven.”  The submissions range from dark to funny, documentary to surreal.  Check them all out and vote for your favorites, and feel free to share your favorites with us as well in the comments below!
