Vonage Makes Stalking Facebook Friends Even Easier

The Vonage Mobile for Facebook app brings smartphone users one step closer to calling their virtual friends at the drop of a hat. Even if you don't know your friend's phone number, you can call them for free as long as he or she has the app too. You can also download the app itself for free; it became available to the iPhone, iPod touch and Android on Wednesday. Vonage expects to make the app available for the iPad soon. Once you have downloaded the app, it automatically combs through all of your Facebook friends who also have the app. You can then simply click on their name and give them a phone call, without having to dial any numbers or go through special security hoops. Another benefit of combining Facebook and phone calls? You can see someone's status as you call them, instantly giving you a conversation starter. "Now, Facebook can be your Phone Book," states Vonage on its mobile app web site. WiFi and 3G/4G networks allow the app to function. Of course, since the app only helps you if other friends have it too, Vonage has built-in motivation for you to convince your friends to join the bandwagon. And since the app targets Facebook users (pretty much everyone, in other words), Vonage's advertising campaign on Facebook will probably work well. Over 3700 people currently like the Vonage page. There's a potentially annoying element related to this advertising -- Vonage will periodically remind app users to invite Facebook friends to join in the fun. While Vonage claims that you can use the app to make calls anywhere in the world, the company also makes clear that data charges might apply depending on your mobile carrier.
